How do you spend your Sundays? You can spend time with family, friends, or other fun things. Sometimes you need to catch up on work or projects. However you fill your time, God should be a major part of the schedule.
Does this mean you can’t have fun or do some work from time to time on a Sunday?
Of course not. In Isaiah, God says the Sabbath is a time to take a break to spend time with Him. “If you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD’s holy day honorable and if you honor it by not going your own way…then you will find your joy in the LORD, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land” (Isaiah 58:13-14 NIV).
If you fill your Sundays by “going your own way,” you’ll miss out on the wonderful blessings of being with your Savior. Reading the Bible, taking a walk while talking with God, and serving Him are all ways to make Sunday special.
I personally enjoy journaling my thoughts and taking an hour to sit and listen for God’s voice. I’ve had some “mountaintop experiences” where I’ve felt God draw close and speak. Those times are precious and exciting. They are what Isaiah must have meant in writing, “I will cause you to ride on heights of the land.”
Delight in getting to know God more; seek new ways to know Him. In doing this, you will find joy in the Lord.
